This past Friday bicyclists in Nashville celebrated the monthly Critical Mass ride. The event takes place on the last Friday of every month, which in this case was Friday, July 29. This event marked the third month Critical Mass has hit the streets of downtown Nashville. Once again the meeting place was Dragon Park in the Hillsboro Village area. Riders began arriving around 5 PM, but the ride did not take off until 5:30. This ride drew 35 participants, up from last month, but the riders took a longer route through the streets of downtown Nashville. As you can see in the pictures below the group rode down 21st Ave, Broadway, and up 2nd Avenue North before going back towards Centennial Park on West End Avenue.
The crowd was enthusiastic, energetic, and had fun becoming traffic on the streets of Nashville. The ride took place without incident, although a guy did crash as he was attempting to pedal after a stop light. All vehicles respected the ride and allowed the riders their space and time on the road. Riders even passed several Metro Police cars on the road as they let the ride go on in peace without a sound of sirens.
NashvilleCyclist.com neither sponsors nor endorses this event, but rather is reporting what is taking shape in the bicycling community of Nashville. Below are some pictures during the course of the evening, and at the bottom a few up close pictures of interesting bikes.
