NashvilleCyclist.com Criterium Championship Results
Race # 3
24 August 2005

Wednesday evening marked the final race of the 2005 NashvilleCyclist.com Criterium Series.  The weather at The Coliseum in downtown Nashville was fantastic with sunset timed perfectly as the "A" race crossed the finish line with light to spare.  With 22 "A" racers and 32 "B" racers it confirmed the overall series a huge success as 152 total racers participated in the three race event.   Since the overall championship points winners were still undecided it made for interesting racing, not to mention the opportunity to win double the prize money!

At the end of the night the overall points winner for the "A" category was Zach Bolian with 23 points, and for the "B" category it was Patrick Harkins with 18 points despite him not racing on Wednesday.  John Carr gave it all he had and battled in hopes for a victory, but his fourth place finish in the "B" race meant he fell short.  If Zach Bolian and Patrick Harkins will contact NashvilleCyclist.com we will work out a way to award your overall prize of a NashvilleCyclist.com team clothing kit.

NashvilleCyclist.com diarists Zach Bolian,  Katharine Carroll and Jesse Lawler were all laying down the pace in the "A" race.  As if the race wasn't fast enough Jesse's teammate Evan Elken of Jittery Joe's-Kalahari was in town and lit up the course like a Christmas tree.  Jesse, Zach and Evan took off early into the race and never looked back as they lapped the field and sped past.  Evan and Zach pressed forward as Jesse assumed the lead and dragged the pack around the course winding down the race.  Evan ended up taking Zach in the sprint for victory as Jesse opted out of the field sprint but remained a solid 3rd place finisher.

The battle in the "B" race came down to Jason Tatum and John Carr as John was aware of what was at stake if he pulled out a win.  Jason formed an early solo break that saw John have to work extensively in order to get back into contention.  TriStar worked as one unit to ensure a win proving to be too much for John's Cumberland Transit team to pull out the overall championship.  A victory on Wednesday would have seen John win the overall by one point over Patrick.  In the end Tatum was too strong as he took the win with Jason's teammate Jonathan Cooke sprinting for second and John Carr crossing in fourth..

Thank you to everyone who raced and for the many spectators who came out to watch their friends or family participate.  The amount of support we received was more than we could have imagined and it's very much appreciated from those of us who put this event together.  To continue growing our sport here in Nashville it will require each of us to participate in these types of events as often as possible.  This event hopes to become a staple in the Nashville cycling community throughout the Spring and Summer of 2006, so be ready for even faster and more exciting action next season.
