Becoming your best and reaching your full potential is every athlete's dream.  A tremendous amount of hard work, time and resources are invested into reaching desired goals.  In most situations, in work or play, reaching your goals requires seeking the guidance and stewardship of others to take us to the next level of development.  The role of a coach is to lead, guide and direct the athlete so they are motivated to work hard, develop, improve and achieve results they have never achieved before.

My goal as a cycling coach is to help take you to that level of ability and ultimate outcome goal you desire.  I am a big believer in that it is the athlete doing the heavy lifting, but the coach helps to guide the ship, point you in the right direction and challenge you to give it everything you've got.  If you can think it, believe it and achieve it.

How does my philosophy manifest itself within the opportunity to help you reach your goals?

First, my philosophy is goals driven.  I believe it is important to have a target or multiple targets to aim towards.  If we are not sure of our targets then we will most certainly have poor aim and miss.  I help you identify those targets and structure a plan to have you ready to achieve them.

Second, my philosophy focuses on the overall development of the rider and athlete.  The development of any cyclist takes time, and some progress more quickly than others.  My training structure focuses on gaining a great understanding of your current state of fitness and strength, and then methodically taking your body and mind through the development process.  There are physiological, emotional and mental adaptations necessary to experience repeatedly before any athlete can expect to regularly attain success.

Third, I strongly believe it is critical to properly manage all stress in your life in way that promotes balance.  All of us are faced with external and internal stimuli that affects our central nervous system; this could be through work, marriage, exercise, school, family, sickness, etc.  Minimizing stressful variables in your life will not only provide greater happiness, but it will promote better health and greater likelihood of cycling success.  My role is to keep an eye on the big picture of your life, balance training within all that you have going on, and come out the other side feeling refreshed, excited, successful and happy.

Fourth, I am here to hold you accountable.  Your success is my success, but the converse is true as well.  Therefore, you can bet that all my coaching recommendations are designed so that together we achieve the success you desire.  As we go through the process of development I will be there to remind you of what is most important, help adjust your blinders, and to help you stay focused on your goals.  It is through this process you and I both develop a closer working relationship built on trust and communication.

Finally, as I attempt to tackle everything above I am also working towards implementing a SWOT analysis approach to training and competition.  My thoughts on all of this is not rocket science, but science certainly does support my ideology.

Utilize and enhance your STRENGTHS
Minimize and improve your WEAKNESSES
Identify and execute your OPPORTUNITIES
Isolate and overcome your THREATS

Every cycling coach out there realizes you have options and can muddle your way through training.  My job is to specialize in you and become the best expert I can on what makes you tick.  You would neither want me fixing your car nor repairing your plumbing or air conditioning, but coaching cyclists is what I do for a living full-time.  Regardless of who you end up choosing, find someone you trust, someone you believe in, and find a professional to take the burden and stress off your plate.  Hiring a coach will be one of the wisest investments you make in your cycling endeavor - more so than any bike or set of wheels.

As I mentioned earlier - if you can think it, believe it and achieve it.
